What's genuinely being automated

Taking an order, especially for repeat or straightforward items, is increasingly self-service. That frees staff time rather than eliminating the role outright.

What isn't going anywhere

Recommendation, hospitality, handling complaints, and reading a table's mood are not tasks current AI systems do well, and guests consistently rate human service as part of what they're paying for in full-service dining.

The realistic shift

The waiter role is shifting from order-taker to host and problem-solver - a better use of a person's time, not a disappearing one.
